About Me

Hello, I’m Emma

I am curious about the human condition; what makes us tick; why and how we suffer unnecessarily, and what leads us to heal. I find it immensely rewarding to accompany people on their journey towards freedom and change - which is why I decided to train as an integrative counsellor and energy psychotherapist.

How did I get into this line of work?

I’ve always been fascinated by friends’ descriptions of what actually happens inside a therapy room, and I love listening to accounts of how people get better.

As a teenager and university student these were amongst my very favourite conversations - in fact they still are!  In the past, I was aware of feeling inspired by others’ experiences.  I wanted something of that for myself, and so set off on my own journey of healing and discovery.

My own healing journey

My own journey has included a lot of therapy and I’m still in therapy now.  Undoubtedly this has helped me hone my craft.  I can support you in your process having learnt from others who have supported me in my process.  I have seen a number of practitioners of various modalities (person-centred, psychodynamic, psychoanalytic, NLP, Gestalt, Jungian, energy psychology, EMDR etc).  This helps me offer you an informed, integrative and integrated approach.

Finding energy psychotherapy for myself

All the different therapeutic modalities help, but it can take a while to find the one that suits you best. Energy psychotherapy has helped me shift difficulties which I don’t think would have been possible with talking alone.  This has been incredibly useful to me and so now energy work has become my preferred form of therapy as both practitioner and as a client.  However, I believe it is the combination of the therapeutic relationship in addition to the energy psychotherapy modalities which provide the impetus for healing and change.

How has energy work helped me?

Energy work has helped me because instead of turning up to sessions, talking, and then leaving (hoping that over time I’ll feel better), in the process of doing various energy psychotherapy embodied exercises, I do actually feel better then and there!  During sessions, I yawn a lot, which is a release and a relief (and also admittedly peculiar!).  I have an embodied experience of energy moving round my body and shifting.  I feel the difference and it lasts. I leave sessions feeling better than I did at the start, and over the months and years I have become lighter and more resilient in my daily life.

Today

I am delighted to be one of the most experienced energy psychotherapy practitioners in the country.

Today I consider myself fortunate to have found these approaches towards the beginning of my career, and I have spent the last decade or so training in the full range of energy psychotherapy techniques that are taught in the UK.  I have a certificate in energy psychotherapy (2013 - 2014) and I am a certified Advanced Integrative Therapy (AIT) practitioner (2017).  I have been a course assistant on the Confer Diploma in energy psychotherapy (2020 - 2021) and I now teach these methods to other therapists.  My colleagues and I are very excited by these emerging methods and consider them a game changer in our work with our clients.  I am delighted to find myself one of the most experienced practitioners of these methods in the country.  I would very much like to meet you, either to give you a taster of these approaches, or to embark on some longer term work together.  I invite you to see for yourself what all the fuss is about!

Is there life beyond therapy?!

When I am not on Zoom during a global pandemic, I like hanging out in cafes, yoga studios, charity shops or rural France.  Failing that, you might catch me watching niche theatre; devouring a not necessarily highbrow novel; or glued to Netflix - purely for research purposes so that I understand what my clients are talking about, you understand...
